Comcast/Charter partnership could disrupt U.S. wireless market says T-Mobile's CFO Carter

A couple of weeks ago, we told you that Comcast and Charter had agreed to become partners on "wireless phone ventures." Some industry analysts even see the partnership making an acquisition of either Sprint or T-Mobile. Separately, both Comcast and Charter are offering their own MVNOs. Comcast will use a combination of  Wi-Fi hotspots and Verizon's 4G LTE network. Comcast's Xfinity Mobile is already open for business. Charter's MVNO, which will also employ Verizon's 4G LTE network, will launch next year.

Interestingly, T-Mobile CFO Braxton Carter says that the Comcast/Charter partnership ...

Renders of the 10.5-inch and new 12.9-inch iPad Pro models surface

A little over a week ago, KGI securities Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple would be unveiling its new 10.5-inch Apple iPad Pro at WWDC next month. Today, render artist Benjamin Geskin posted what he says are renders for both the unannounced 10.5-inch Apple iPad Pro, and a new unannounced 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. Also included are cases for both tablets. Geskin's renders reveal that despite rumors to the contrary, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro will not be bezel-free. The bezels will be reduced in size, however.

Vertu launches tacky, expensive, helicopter-delivered Cobra Limited Edition phone

Warning ? here be snakes! Opulent, red, ruby snakes. If it weren't for the impeccable craftsmanship that went into creating the cobra mosaic out of 439 rubies and 2 emeralds (for the eyes), the new Vertu Signature Cobra Limited Edition would have looked about as tasteful as any other phone by the notorious luxury brand ? that is, not much.

Vertu phones are "look at how rich I am" phones, not pieces of near-perfection like the Galaxies and iPhones we enjoy today. Still, ruby snakes on a phone is badass any time of the year and we'd gladly have one of these just for ...

From a design perspective, the only differentiation between the Moto G5S and the Moto G5 or G5 Plus is the full metal body, whereas the aforementioned models have aluminum back plates and plastic sides.

It isn't clear if there are any hardware changes to go along with the updated, more premium look. The original Moto G5 sports a ...

Last week, HTC stepped up to join companies like Samsung, LG, and Sony with a new H1 2017 flagship smartphone, as it introduced the HTC U11. While for years the manufacturer's stuck with its favored aluminum unibody design for phones like the One M8, M9, and last year's HTC 10, it's finally time to break from tradition and head out in a bold new direction, with a colorful glass-backed look for the U11 that's earning the phone a lot of attention.

With Android O, Google is bringing a fresh new look to its emoji... again. But this time around, it's making a serious departure from a style that it has adhered to for years. Ever since they first appeared, Android's emoticons have retained a unique, blob-like shape, keeping them similar to the Android mascot's head. However, the "blob emoji" aren't really loved by users, often referred to as ugly.

Fuchsia is not replacing Android, at least not for now

Nearly two weeks ago, we told you about a new open source operating system that Google has been quietly working on. Called Fuchsia, the OS now has a proper user interface for smartphones and tablets. Unlike Android, which uses a kernel based on Linux, Fuchsia employs a kernel called Magenta. While some were thinking that Fuchsia was being groomed to replace Android down the road, we actually have something that resembles an explanation from Dave Burke, Google?s VP of engineering for Android.

According to Burke, Fuchsia is an early stage project that will "pivot and morph" The executive adds ...

Hobbyist, non-commercial drones no longer have to be registered with the FAA

We don't do much coverage in the way of drones, but this is certainly news worth sharing! The court in Washington, D.C. has pulled the legislation requiring hobbyist drone owners from having to notify the federal government about their purchase and register their quadricopters.

Non-commercial drones are now classified as model aircraft and subjected to the FAA's 2012 Modernization and Reform Act that prevents the government agencies from enforcing new laws to restrict hobbyist flying.

However, said act is set to expire at the end of 2017, which means the ...

Uber trips will get more expensive as the company adds add route-based pricing in 14 American cities

In a bid to generate further income and recover from its $2.8 billion 2016 losses, Uber is adding route-based pricing to its transport services. In addition to charging customers based on distance, travel time, and regular/peak hours, Uber will also expect more money for covering routes in high demand. For example, riding from the suburbs to a downtown establishment may cost more than the opposite route.

The company has implemented an algorithm to predict what customers are absolutely willing to pay in order to get to a certain destination. The final fare will be ...

Deleted iPhone Notes found to remain in iCloud storage long after their 30-day expiration time

Russian company Elcomsoft has a thing about breaking into Apple software and pointing out security flaws. It's a darn fine sport if you really know what you are doing, and the Russkies do.

Their latest discovery is that notes written into the Notes app and sync'd to iCloud remain in storage after the user deletes them, and long after the 30-day period of keeping them in the "Recently Deleted" category has expired. This goes contrary to Apple's claim that notes are permanently deleted after 30 days. They might be ? on your iOS device ? but their ghosts remain in the cloud.

    Thankfully, ...

Image of molds for 2017 iPhone units shows size comparison between the three models

Tipster SlashLeaks has posted a picture that allegedly reveals molds that will be used in the production of the 2017 iPhone lineup. That includes the Apple iPhone 7s, Apple iPhone 7s Plus and the 10th anniversary edition dubbed the Apple iPhone 8. The image tells us how big each model will be compared to the other units. The Apple iPhone 7s will be the smallest of the three models, and will be the only one of the three to have a single camera on back.

Now, you might expect that the Apple iPhone 8, with its rumored 5.8-inch display, would be the largest. Instead, it is only slightly bigger ...

Facebook rolling out food ordering feature in America

Constantly thinking of ways to make even more apps on your phone obsolete, Facebook is reportedly working on a food ordering option. It would work straight through the web and mobile versions of Facebook, making it possible to grab pizza without leaving the social network.

The new option can be found in the Facebook website sidebar, or under the app's main menu. It's probably limited to America, though, as deliveries are carried out via Delivery.com and Slice. Tapping the option will display a list of local restaurants that you can order from. The whole process can be complete through Facebook, ...

Sights, sounds, and fire from Google I/O 2017

Like previous events, Google I/O 2017 did not disappoint. Developers were greeted with a number of new features to the tools they use which, in turn, enhance the features we use every day. The biggest difference in the underlying theme this year was the absence of moonshot projects that we had grown accustomed to seeing yearly. That was counterbalanced significantly by the inroads Google continues to make in machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

That was the big push this year, enticing developers to get up to speed with the latest tools to feed, ...

New OnePlus 5 image shows vertical dual-camera setup with no antenna lines

This past week, a OnePlus staff member posted a very interesting message on the company's online forum. The message, from OnePlus staff member diegohnz, stated that optical firm DxO was working with OnePlus to enhance the camera on the OnePlus 5. The combination of this message and the release of certain teasers showing the number "5" make us feel pretty comfortable calling this model the OnePlus 5.

The current OnePlus model is the OnePlus 3T. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the reasoning behind OnePlus' apparent decision to skip the number four, it has to do with a Chinese superstition. ...
