    Essential Phone Hands-on

Yesterday Essential brought its first officially released hardware to New York City for a ?first look? event. About two years in the making, the Essential phone and 360-degree camera accessory were launched only a few days ago. A labor of love, and sometimes turmoil, Android creator Andy Rubin has finally brought us his vision, and we couldn?t wait to see it up close. Was it a thing of beauty? Or is it an awkward nightmare? Let?s take a look and see.

Android Oreo is coming to HTC U11, HTC U Ultra and HTC 10

Now that Google has made Oreos the favorite cookie among Android users, the big question is whether your Android phone is going to be a recipient of the new Android OS build. Even though you probably can figure out that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge will receive Android 8.0, and ditto for the Moto Z Force, Moto Z and Moto Z Play, once you start talking about models released in 2015, you really don't know what to expect. For example, will the Motorola DROID Turbo 2 be updated? We will have to wait and see.

With the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 upon us, LG continues to ?spam? us with teasers that hint at what its V30 flagship might have to offer. Yesterday, the South Korean company released two short video teasers that take a jab at Samsung Galaxy Note 8's S-Pen features.

Today, another LG V30 video teaser got published online, but this one doesn't make fun of any competitors. The teaser is meant to raise the hype around the LG V30, which is expected to be officially introduced on August 31, one week after the Galaxy Note 8.

"Unknown Sources" checkbox switches from a user setting to a permission on Android Oreo

Many of you Android users out there who have side-loaded an app or two know all about the box that allows you to install apps from "Unknown Sources." Before you download an app from a place outside of the Google Play Store, you must check off this box. However, once Android Oreo is running the show on your phone, you might think that you've lost the ability to sideload apps. While Google did remove the "Unknown Sources" checkbox from its current location, it has merely changed it from a user setting to a permission that you must agree to every time you install an app from an unknown source.

Less than 24 hours before the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 becomes official, tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass comes through again with an image of the high-end phablet in Orchid Gray. In addition to the dual-camera setup on back, we can see the fingerprint scanner to the very right of the camera module, which also includes a pair of lenses and the dual LED flash. Because the flash is in between the camera lenses and the fingerprint scanner, the chances of either lens getting smudged by a user blindly seeking to unlock the device is low.

Smartwatches have been selling for a while now and, as you have probably noticed, square-shaped ones seem to be a bit more widely-spread. Actually, back when they first came out, smartwatches were exclusively square-shaped ? manufacturers still had a tough time with making a round display and designing a software that looks right on it and makes use of the circular shape. The very first round smartwatch was the Moto 360, released in 2014, and it still had a ?flat tire? look, due to the bottom of the display being covered by a black band, which held the display ...
